Worth the trip from Basel to here. The bus which takes you from the station to church is not very frequent. So I decided to walk up the steep slopes. Located amidst farms and trees all around. Good shop outside of it. Has a praying room at the basement which you reach through a tunnel.

Mariastein Abbey (Kloster Mariastein) is a Benedictine monastery in Metzerlen-Mariastein in the Canton of Solothurn, Switzerland. Mariastein, after Einsiedeln, is the second most important place of pilgrimage in Switzerland. Over the Chapel of Grace (\Gnadenkapelle\) now stands a late Gothic three-aisled basilica. The interior is Baroque and the entrance facade classicist.
It is located within famous hiking trail #32.
A most beautiful complex of several buildings with a pretty road through an orchard leading towards it. You can go inside and look around or sit. Lots of sculptures and detail.
