This was very recommended and it didn’t disappoint! Be prepared because they serve A LOT of food. Also if it’s high season it’s best to make a reservation beforehand. Oh, and those little bottles they serve at the end? They are strong alcohol digestives and charge you extra per shot ;) (just so you know)

So never seen anything like it. You sit down in an outdoor type grotto. The service comes with the typical meal of the region. You start with a salami that you cut yourself. Followed by a fantastic salad. Then comes the owner who serves the pasta right to your plate from a giant bowl. Followed by his wife who puts Parmesan on your pasta herself with a spoon out of a bag. And then comes the polenta with steak tips that was fabulous. And after that is the cheese plate with the biggest chunks of cheese you have ever seen that you carve yourself. Followed by a monster slab of dessert that you also carve yourself. And wine and coffee. The best thing is you don’t know what you’re going to have and you will never see anything like this

Really friendly staff.... great atmosphere. Love the concept, no menu, excellent food. Exactly what we wanted. We felt we were treated as guests and not tourists. Will definitely return. Highly recommended. PS: good value

Amazing experience at the CUTEST place!!! It’s all one menu at one set price (19 CHF per person when we went). You just sit down at the communal tables and then the courses start coming! Such a fun time and what a unique dinner experience. This is a MUST in this area for sure!!! Our dinner included salad, bread, salami, pasta, polenta and beef, cheeses, espresso, and local liquor shots... although I think the salad and liquor shots were actually extra. Several waiters told us that all was included, but when the “check” lady came around to take payment, she asked whether we had salad and liquor shots and I believe charged extra for them. Might have been a language barrier but luckily shots were only 4 CHF each. Also—note they DO NOT take credit cards, only cash!!!

Local products, great service, family feel. Nice atmosphere. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend you book, we were lucky to get a table for lunch. All previous visits to Ascona over the years it had been full, lunch and dinner, with queues. Lovely staff too!

Grotto Baldoria is an absolut experience. You need to know that you will eat what they have on the day, what the cook wanted to make. If you are more than 4 people, you can book a table, else, you will have to wait. Food was good, just like at home. I would only go again if I am part of a big group, because that is the fun of it. Service was good, very attentive, they came to check on us a few times, which is nice. If I were you, wouldn't go if you have food allergies or you can't eat certain things (for example, vegans... not for you. Main dish will always have meat in it, and some things are probably cooked with butter). The seating is outside, so be prepared for it. But the ambiance is completely lovely and charming.

Great concept. 1 menu and zero extras. Society is chasing the spectacle. Our world need more Grotto like the Baldoria. I love that simple life style. Efficiency is better. Less food ending in robish bags. So much fun to see reactions from surprised peoples there. They open at 12 o clock and not open the doors bevor. Even when it's raining and 20 people are waiting outside. It's way more than a spectacular restaurant because it's an Adventure. I know you will have afterwards something funny to tell your family friends and M8s. Cheers.

Loved it here. It was a great Sunday lunch Italian style. We arrived shortly after 12 which was good timing as it was starting to get busy. There is a set menu and price but you can order extras such as salads. We had an amazing tuna salad to start (simple but delicious) followed by the salami board. The main was beef and cheese pasta. Cheeses were served to the table after the mains before we had coffee, cake and limoncello. The atmosphere here was great. It had a real buzz about it. Reasonsbly priced too.
