One of the best yet relatively little used bits of the Geneva public transportation network are the water taxis that provide a way to bypass some of the most congested, overcrowded parts of the bus and tram system. Taking the M4 ferry from Port-Noir to Perle du Lac (a five minute walk to nearby Sécheron or Rue de Lausanne) takes the same time as doing it by bus from Genève-Plage. The same holds true for the M3 link to Pâquis. The operator tends to err on the side of caution whenever the weather turns windy even if conditions don't deteriorate further. That and the relatively low frequency the small number of boats allows are really the only downsides to an otherwise great service.
