There are many remarkable aspects, besides the park like setting, the continuous care, the zoo striving to make most out of the given options in the available area. It's an average size zoo. Unfortunately when I visited the zoo it was raining so I couldn't spot all the animals. As there is this covid situation going on, there are no feeding shows. But I could see the Gorilla and lions from the glass this was the best experience. I had never seen a lion from this close. The sea lions were quite entertaining though. The aquarium is also good, I was expecting a octopus as well but it wasn't there. The washrooms were clean, restaurant were good. And there's also drinking water fountains.
To stay Corona-safe you can stay in open air during your whole visit. There's a lot of animals to see... and the big park is nice for a walk
Our family likes this zoo a lot. The various buildings are well laid out and interesting. The residents are dynamic and clearly well taken care of. Well, the apes were a little bit on the downside early this mid October, the cold and shorter days also impact them.
We very much enjoyed our visit. With elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions and giraffes, the zoo had pretty much all you want to see, with perhaps the exception of Tigers. The enclosures are brilliant (large indoor and outdoor viewing areas), and it was not too crowded.
I was very impressed by how the Basel zoo looks like. This is how a zoo should look like. Great condition for the animal. I saw many of the zoos in my country Romania and none can rise to the level of this one in Basel. Congratulations to all who have been involved in organizing the zoo in Basel. Ypu did a great job.
A great zoo, easy to access by tram. I just wish they had English descriptions too! (only the name of the animal is in English, nothing else)
A brilliant zoo with an up-close view of a wide array of species ranging from elephants to snow leopard to giraffes to penguins. Totally worth to visit for all the lovers of wildlife and a great place for kids as well.
